The May 2018 HCRTA General Meeting was held on Monday, May 7th at the Highland County Senior Citizen’s Center.
The program for the May meeting included interesting and informative talks by three outstanding Highland County students. The student speakers, all of whom had won public speaking competition awards, shared their prepared speeches as follows: Hillsboro Rotary 4 Way Speech Winner, Rachel Tracy, a Senior at Hillsboro Christian Academy spoke on "The Effect of Drugs"; FFA Advanced Prepared Speech Winner, Alora Brown, a Sophomore at Hillsboro HS Spoke on "Education in Animal Science"; and FFA Beginning Prepared Speech Winner, Loraleigh Mayhan, a Sophomore at Hillsboro HS Spoke about "The Dispute About Using GMOs"
Following the student presentations, HCRTA District Liasons briefly spoke to the group about the reorganization of the ORTA.
Committee reports were delivered by Bob Hottle (Treasurer’s Report and Meeting Minutes), Mary Black (Scholarship), Kevin Black (web site), Jim Faust, Nona VanDenBerg, Beverly Rhoads, and Loretta Dean, (Membership), Elaine Riggles (Retirement Planning), Cindy Eigel (Necrology), Charles Newland (Legislative), Kathy Levo Community Service), and Joyce Baker (Historical Society).
Monetary and supply donations were collected For the Southern Ohio Pregnancy Center's Moses Basket Project.
New business included ideas concerning the future meeting programs, service projects, and meeting venues.
