Speakers included brief statements from ORTA Region 9 Liaisons Becky Cropper and Evelyn Yockey, ORTA President Bee Lehner, and AMBA benefits representative Bonnie Norris. The featured Speaker was Hope Short, Member Education Specialist from STRS Ohio, speaking about changes in member benefits affecting Ohio public school retirees for 2019. According to Ms. Short, there will be no change in health care premiums in 2019 for about 90% of STRS health care subscribers. During the business portion of the meeting reports were given by Kevin Black regarding the October ORTA District Meeting in Dayton as well as web site and Facebook updates; Doris Pulse, Treasurer, reporting on scholarship donations in memory of Harold Harvey, Judge Richard Davis, and George Schaffer; Mary Black, Scholarships, updating the status of current scholarship recipients and acknowledging the generosity of HCRTA members in supporting 3 scholarships in the amount of $500; Cindy Eigel, updating the membership on recent passing of area educators or their family members. Charles Newland briefly reported on legislation affecting retired teachers and the education community and Joyce Baker and Kathy Levo reported on the Highland House Holiday tree display,. as well as other current happenings at the museum. In new business, the membership re-elected the current slate of officers and added Kevin Black to fill the vacancy for Secretary created by the passing of Pamela Nickel. The meeting concluded by deciding that the February General Meeting would be held again at the Hillsboro Ponderosa Banquet Center, and the the February service project would be TBD donations for the Highland County Homeless Shelter. |
